STRONGEST

STRONGEST’s main objective is to design and demonstrate an evolutionary ultra-high capacity multilayer transport network, compatible with Gbit/s access rates, based on optimized integration of Optical and Packet nodes, and equipped with a multi-domain, multi-technology control plane. This network will offer:

  • High scalability and flexibility
  • Guaranteed end-to-end performance and survivability
  • Reduced total cost of ownership
  • Minimisation of the power consumption across the entire network

The project started in January 2010 and will last 3 years, until December 2012. The project coordinator of the relevant project is Telecom Italia whilst the consortium consists of   a total of  16 partners including  Alcatel-Lucent Deutschland AG(Germany), British Telecommunications PLC(UK), Centre Tecnologic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya(Spain), Consorzio Nazionale Interuniversitario per leTelecomunicazioni (Italy), Deutsche Telekom AG(Germany), Ericsson Telecomunicazioni S.p.A.(Italy), IBBT(Belgium), Nokia Siemens Networks GMBH & Co. KG(Germany), Telefonica Investigacion y Desarrollo SA(Spain), Universitaet Stuttgart(Germany),Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (Spain), University of Essex (UK), University of Peloponnese(Greece), VECOMM di Vezzoni Emilio(Italy) and PrimeTel PLC.
